Adaptation as Migration

چکیده
This essay explores the implications of using migration as a metaphor for adaptation. These become legally and morally fraught when adaptation is regarded not simply but emigration or immigration, two activities more narrowly defined by gatekeepers who are particularly invested in regulating policing them. Drawing on examples from Oz books L. Frank Baum, offers preliminary grammar that emphasizes four areas: (1) foundational terms like host target cultures, frames scripts, parties involved migrating defining migration; (2) motives migrating, encouraging migration, inhibiting (3) products migrating; (4) morality ethics migration. It concludes raising questions about kinds invisible involve texts utterances crossing borders which current theories fail to take into account.

Stress hormone dynamics: an adaptation to migration?
The hormone corticosterone (CORT) is an important component of a bird's response to environmental stress, but it can also have negative effects. Therefore, birds on migration are hypothesized to have repressed stress responses (migration-modulation hypothesis). In contrast to earlier studies on long-distance migrants, we evaluate this hypothesis in a population containing both migratory and res...

Tool use as adaptation
Tool use is a vital component of the human behavioural repertoire. The benefits of tool use have often been assumed to be self-evident: by extending control over our environment, we have increased energetic returns and buffered ourselves from potentially harmful influences. In recent decades, however, the study of tool use in both humans and non-human animals has expanded the way we think about...
متن کاملDivision as modified migration
Division as modified migration dividing cell mimics two half cells migrating away from each other, according to Chris Janetopoulos, Peter Devreotes, and colleagues (Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD). A gradient of PI(3,4,5)P 3 appears to help the two ends of the cell to expand outwards, even as the middle of the cell favors contraction. Devreotes has long studied PI(3,4,5)P 3 involvement...
